I was gonna get frozen yogurt but I realized I *really* wanted a scoop of something in a cone… So I got cones and Ben & Jerry’s blueberry/graham frozen Greek yogurt at the store. I had a normal 1/2 cup portion and I gotta say that, at least this time, it was way more satisfying than a tub of low-cal froyo.
Salted lime pie and coconut ice cream… Ok, lunch porn stops now :)
I’ve been messing around making “sorbets” out of frozen fruit. This is just half a banana, 1/2 c blueberries, and 1/2 c raspberries, all frozen then blended in a food processor with a little water and a stevia packet. (I don’t think the stevia made any difference.) This time around I messed with adding about 1/4 tsp guar gum as a thickener. Not sure how much of a difference that made but the end result is SO GOOD — naturally sweetened, vegan, paleo(ish), and so on.
Good news about today: finally got to try the Ben & Jerry’s blueberry/graham cracker frozen Greek yogurt!
Dessert/meal 5: pumpkin protein “ice cream” topped with 1/2 oz chopped pecans.
It’s really just 1 scoop protein powder mixed into a slurry with almond milk, then mixed with 1/4 c pumpkin, cinnamon, and stevia, then frozen and later whipped in the food processor to make it more ice cream-like in texture.
I keep buying these, forgetting about them, and then finding them in the freezer!
Dangerous but awesome food truck I found last night: Coolhaus
Last night was pretty ridiculous — I was on the go starting around 5:30 p.m. and didn’t get home until about 10 hours later. Ooops. My eating was pretty terrible — not because it was full of junk, but because it was totally insufficient! I thought I would have a little more time to re-fuel but “dinner” ended up being an Atkins bar (gross) I grabbed at a drugstore.
ANYWAYS, a little later in the evening I wound up at an Absolut vodka-sponsored party DJed by Swedish House Mafia to celebrate both greyhounds (the cocktail) and “Greyhound,” some track SHM made to celebrate it… Well okay. Corporate marketing largesse is pretty amazing, because there was free food here from a couple of food trucks. Amazing discovery:
The Coolhaus ice cream sandwich truck.

It’s all custom ice cream sandwiches — you pick whatever flavor of cookie you want and a flavor of ice cream and they squish ‘em together for you. There are vegan and gluten-free options too. Couldn’t resist! I picked chocolate-chip cookies because I got overwhelmed by choice, and sweet potato/marshmallow ice cream… Sounds weird but I assure you, it was worth the calories.
I ate a few bites and tossed the rest… It’s great when just a few bites of something satisfy. And, I didn’t magically gain 10 pounds or anything. Funny how that works ;)
Found a hidden pint in the back of the freezer! (Yes, that’s an Elvis/Graceland coaster.)
Protein mug came with 1 TB Jif natural peanut butter as the day’s last mini meal
I guess this is a relatively expensive habit, but hey, it’s a cheaper vice than drinking! (A pint of Arctic Zero costs less than half of what an average well drink is at many places around here.)
