Logging today’s workout… leg day and a short run

For once, it didn’t rain in the evening, and it was actually a decent enough temperature to run without dying. FINALLY — signs Florida summer is ENDING.

Today’s workout: treadmill intervals….

Just logging this here so I remember what I did: 30 min with 2 min slow, 1 min fast.

I let myself get wayyy out of specific running condition over the boiling-hot summer. Good thing I have at least a 5k lined up in October so I’ll have a reason to get my speed sort of back up for that.

Still kind of want to run Disney or ING Miami in January, but I’m giving myself another week to decide. I’ll need a way better training plan this time around; last year’s goal was just to get across the finish line, and I think I ran a ton of junk miles without knowing any better.

OK so IDK if this is a humble brag but it is relevant…

That wheelchair bodybuilding competition I attended earlier this year really stuck with me, and the whole thing is just DYING for more exposure and a closer look in the mainstream.

I just got a major national publication to agree to let me write about it :))))) I’m hoping to follow next year’s contestants starting this fall as they prep and all that stuff. They deserve so much credit and attention (and maybe more sponsorships?). I am SO EXCITED.

For the same magazine, I’m also going to be running the Run For Your Lives zombie-themed race in the fall…. But, as a running zombie. So I guess I should work on my sprints, haha.

I just went out for an easy 30 minutes but that wound up being an unexpected hill workout. As a sea-level baby I am NOT conditioned for that really so the uphill parts wound up more like power walks, but the scenery was great — mostly empty, green landscapes like this. It was incredibly peaceful; I need to get into uninterrupted greenery more often.

Logging today’s workout.

I’ve grown to love leg days :) That is all. I was feeling pretty good today so I added a little weight on everything again. I haven’t tried to figure out my 1RM on anything in a looooong time (like, two years) so I may have to enlist someone to help me with that later this week, because I’m curious.

RIP To My Treadmill

Godspeed old friend, apparently I ran you to death!!! :(

Thanks for getting me through those boring but effective long runs during the Great Monsoon of Summer 2011.

Today’s workout…

On the treadmill: 4 miles with 3 min at 6.0 mph, 1 min at 5.2… Modest goal but I’d like to get up to a 10:00 pace at 10k distance - VERY modest but I’m slow!

I have about a month to decide if I want to sign up for one of the winter half-marathons like Disney or IMG Miami again… After ING this past January, I was certain I wanted to run Disney in 2013, but I’m not sure if training for another endurance event aligns with my body comp or mental health goals right now.

Today’s workout…

…was a TERRIBLE idea. I had a sprint workout scheduled and didn’t want to deal with changing the treadmill constantly, so I figured I’d take my workout outside. Note to self: 11 a.m. Is way, way too late to attempt sprints outdoors in Florida summer. I made it through a five minute warmup jog, then just 10 cycles of 15 second sprints, 45 second recovery jogs until I felt like I was gonna puke from the heat and humidity. Oh well!

When cardio pays off

I just got home, but successfully ran down an escapee indoor cat after about 15 laps around the block. Me: 1, Cat: 0

Twentysomething female. Florida.

Just trying to stay healthy, fit, and sane in a world that is often none of these.

This blog is about healthy food, fitness, body image, self care, recovery, weightlifting, and all that kind of stuff.

After years of obsessive calorie-counting, bad habits, and worse self-image, I'm choosing to get better... So bear with me as I retool this blog a bit.
